Grrrsday
In honor of National Dog Day earlier this week, this blogger ran a set of pulp magazine covers with Man's Best Friend on the cover. This one is a fiction weekly from 1925.
The cats are not amused.

It's Deja Vu All Over Again
It's after midnight. We've just managed to evict a bat. I was slightly more helpful this time.
This has been quite a week.

Aunt Martha's Workbasket, June 1937
Not a lot of content in this month's issue but this crocheted outfit (skirt, blouse and capelet) is pretty, and there are instructions for making a Trip Around The World quilt, and an embroidery pattern for a "Singing Mexican Boy." Free download at the Antique Pattern Library.

The Online Bookshelf - Book Reviews

Book reviews written in 1911 by inmates at Sing-Sing. Robert Louis Stevenson evidently was a favorite - Mrs Gaskell rather less so.

Sixty Million Frenchmen (Had Better Stand By)
image from agence eureka
Lord knows I should have learned my lesson, but for some reason I decided that my two sisters and I (USA, USN and USMC, respectively) really need to go to Paris next year. I found a river cruise that's being offered at a great rate, and decide that we can follow up the cruise with a quick trip to Alsace because Haguenau. I present for your reading pleasure a slightly edited version of the ensuant three-way text conversation.
I've decided to go to Paris next April. Anyone want to go with me?
I'm in.
Me me pick me.
I'm looking at a (TM) river cruise its from Paris to Normandy and back. Afterwards we can take the train to Haguenau.
I have always wanted to do a (TM) cruise
I can meet you in Paris I'm not good on a boat
ITS A GODDAMNED RIVER
Yes dear
This is what we get for inviting the Army along
Hey Tip of the Spear
There are drugs for that
Like she needs them
Yes I really want to be on a small boat with you two
I'll meet you in Paris
Like she needs them
Yes I really want to be on a small boat with you two
I'll meet you in Paris

Children's Crafts - A Cat Purse from 1949
A clever little coin purse in the shape of a cat's head. I remember these - you pinned one to the lapel of your Sunday coat, and your mother put a quarter inside for the collection basket.
A page of instructions can be downloaded from my Flickr account.

Luckily, She's My Sister-In-Law
Travel Agent: So, you want to fly into Columbia but out of Charleston?
Me: They can't be that far apart - I think Sherman managed to burn them both.
