One Day And One Eighty Dollar Pet Gate Later

Our petsitter texted us that SOMEBODY was really, really happy to see her.

With Fear and Trembling and Ten Days' Worth of Face Masks

Departing tomorrow - I may blog on the trip but no guarantees because the spousal unit will be with me.  We were fortunate enough to hire a member of our vet's staff to housesit for us.

Leaving the dogs and Blitzen is going to be bad enough - leaving them alone would probably be a guarantee of wreckage upon our return.

Quote Of The Day

The best moments in reading are when you come across something, a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things that you'd thought special, particular to you.  And here it is, set down by someone else, a person you've never met, maybe even someone long dead.  And it's as if a hand has come out, and taken yours. ~ Alan Bennett

Putting Me In My Place Dep't

One of the public libraries where the Little Man serves as a reading therapy dog is temporarily shutting down some of their programs due to a major remodeling that starts next week.  "Tales for Tails" is one of those affected.

Me:  Just let me know if and when you decide to start the reading program again - we'll be happy to return.

Librarian:  Oh, definitely - we really want to see (Little Man) here again!

(after an unflattering pause).

Librarian:  And you too, of course!

Sewing - "Just A Yard And A Half" from 1921

From the Woman's Home Companion, February 1921, instructions on how to sew a variety of undergarments. Although the magazine would have preferred readers to send away for the patterns, it wouldn't be much of a task to draft facsimiles based on the illustrations and your measurements. It's Been A While

Off to a training summit in beautiful Romeoville, IL - I am so glad to be back teaching in-person, even if it means I'm going to be standing up there for 6.5 hours wearing a mask.  I am not a big fan of remote learning.

This Is What I Get For Using Non-Union Labor

Helping to sort socks, which is why it took twice as long as usual.

Daring me to iron that flannel shirt.

Showing his appreciation for the stack of table linens I warmed up for him.

Tatting - A Doily from 1954

From the March, 1954 issue of Workbasket magazine, left-click to enlarge.  This one is from my collection and has not yet been added to the online Workbasket page at the Antique Pattern Library.

National Reading Month

It actually honors Dr Theodore Seuss Geisel, which is why Read Across America Day is this month as well (March 2nd).

Quote Of The Day

There are not many boys who don't know how to play "cat."  It requires a good deal of skill, and if you don't break anybody's window or put out anybody's eye, it's a lot of fun. ~ Carolyn Sherwin Bailey, Boys' Make At Home Things

The Online Bookshelf - Two In Arcadia

A book of fairly mediocre poetry and stunning graphic illustrations.  Are they woodcuts?  I can't tell.  Available at Project Gutenberg.
