Russian Tea


Strictly speaking this is not Russian (and I’m not sure it’s tea, either!) but it’s good on cold days.

1 cup instant Lipton’s tea
2 cups Tang
1 cup Country Time or other powdered lemonade mix
2 cups sugar
2 t ground cinnamon
½ t ground cloves.

Mix this all together and keep in the pantry in an airtight container. 3 tablespoons of mix to 1 cup of boiling water.

    I love the stuff. I go through 3 or 4 batches every winter. Like you say, strictly speaking it's not really tea (or Russian), but it's sure good when it's cold outside!

  2. We used to make big batches of this when I was a kid. It's great on a cold day when you've been outside ever since school let out.

    There was a pond about 100 yards from our house and we couldn't wait for it to freeze over. I lived on skates until I was eighteen...

    There was also this great sledding hill at the end of our neighborhood that went straight down for a quarter of a mile and emptied out on a street. There was a rope and concrete barrier just before you hit the street; the trick was to flatten yourself and slide under the rope at the end of a successful run.

    How none of us were hit by cars or decapitated by that rope still escapes me.

  4. Sorry for two posts so close together, but some little temporary dyslexia demon made me see 1/2 teaspoon of ground olives.

  5. I can't see why Splenda would not work, if it doesn't react to heat the way Equal does (nasty chemical taste).

    Make it with sugar free Tang (if that's available) and lemonade mix and then add sweetener after you pour in the boiling water.

    (isn't dyslexia fun? I have the same flickers of transposition occasionally).
