The original pattern called for Dritz Luxury Belastraw. I have no idea what the modern equivalent might be, but perhaps some experienced crochet-hands out there can help?
A quick Google turned up this discussion: http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=63836, which seems to indicate Aunt Lydia's Denim is a good substitute, and that Belastraw was a 5-ply rayon.
ReplyDeleteLike one of those posters, I'd have expected it to be more, well, strawlike. Especially if you're using it to make what looks kinda like a straw purse.
Do craft store still sell raffia? If you could get the same gauge that might work, too.
ReplyDeleteAh, Dritz! I have some of my mother's old Dritz sewing notions from the 40s...
ReplyDeleteThis lady looks so entranced with the bag. I wonder what is in it?
Chocolate? That's the only thing that could put that expression on MY face!
ReplyDeleteInteresting accessories. And thanks for providing the instructions for these.
ReplyDeleteThose are so goofy they're positively cute. Can't you just imagine someone like Leslie Caron wearing that little hat?
