And learn O voyager to walk
The roll of earth, the pitch and fall
That swings across these trees those stars;
That swings the sunlight up the wall.
And learn upon these narrow beds
To sleep in spite of sea, in spite
Of sound the rushing planet makes;
And learn to sleep against this ground.
Archibald MacLeish
Loved it..
ReplyDeleteI just have to ask, who is that man on the right side of your blog? He reminds me so much of one of my brothers.. LOL I know it isn't but it still makes me pause and think about him.
I'm afraid all I know is that he's an Australian firefighter.
ReplyDeleteLOL for sure it can't be my brother.. I don't think he's ever been to Aussie :)
ReplyDeleteGreat Archibald MacLeish quote. Check out the blog I'm making on him for an English project please: http://malloryegr5.edublogs.org
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting on my blog! I'd have to say that this poem makes me actually hear the sounds of the waves crashing on the shore. I have a cottage on Lake Michigan and sleep to this sound and am very fond of it. It's really exciting that you used to live on the sea, I'd love to do that some day!
ReplyDeleteBe careful what you wish for, Mallory; I was at sea because I enlisted ;-)
