Quote of the Day

Libraries can get you through times of no money better than money can get you through times of no libraries. Ann Herbert

  1. I've always loved the library because a. I've always loved to read and b. have always been dirt poor. What a wonderful -FREE- resource it is. People don't realize that all the things they are greppsing about not being able to have or afford can be found for free if you look hard enough , or for alot cheaper if they would quit mistaking want for need.

On a side note; a few years ago the Jacksonville city council authorized 1 million dollars to upgrade the main branch of the city library. For once we approved of their spending habits.

Hope you and yours are doing well Shay,
    Nancy

  2. I used to "double-dip" -- while on active duty of course I had access to the base library but since I usually lived out in town, as soon as I got the chance I got my library card. I still have fond memories of the Irvine public library in California. That was a great library.

At Lejeune, we lived in Richlands...not quite the same!

  3. I remember when the building in the picture was still standing...I didn't live in town, but I have a vivid memory of gazing at the old library while standing in line at the theater across the street waiting to get in to see "Jaws!" Thanks, Shay - I really enjoy your blog.

  4. The few times I have moved, I was always quick to find the library in the new town. They're like second homes :).

  5. Shay,
We were stationed at New River from 1993 to 1997 when we moved here to Florida. I remember Le Jeune well!

  6. cuteone: I'm sure tearing it down had something to do with asbestos and/or lead in the paint, but I sure like this library better than the one they built to replace it.

What an UGLY building it is.

  7. What a very cool quote! I love the vintage image, too!
I remembering visiting the library quite often with my big sisters as a child! We had little money, but I never lacked in reading material! I love libraries! :)
