Since Her Majesty went away, Reserve Cat (I suppose I should
promote him to Primary Cat now, but I can’t) has become very
demonstrative. He wasn’t much of a lap
sitter or a cuddler after he outgrew kittenhood, but if I’m in the recliner
he’s on my knees or my chest every night now.
And when I sit in the computer chair, he’s curled up beside me.
He stands next to the bed in the morning and talks to me as
I get up, follows me to the shower to watch (no skeeving – he’s a cat). If I’m upstairs and he’s downstairs, he comes
looking for me. If I’m downstairs and
he’s upstairs, samey-samey.
I don’t know if this is a recent development because he’s
lonely, or if this affection has always been waiting to manifest itself and the
Drama Queen and I just never gave him a chance.
He got in bed with me this morning after the alarm went off
and snuggled up under my arm.
Since he was the reserve cat, he was just biding his time.
ReplyDeleteMy heart aches for Her Majesty, but I'm glad Reserve Cat is discovering new and pleasant things in life.
ReplyDeleteSimilar thing happened here when the dominant one of the two boys we had died. His quiet little orange brother changed into a smushpot, demanded more attention and lap time, became more vocal and even started playing with our dog. Both orange guy and the forever puppy were afraid of the dominant cat, the smartest cat we've ever had, but born to be emperor of something.
ReplyDeleteGlad reserve cat and you are both doing a bit better.
All the workmen should be out of this new-to-us house the end of next week and we can go look for a pair of cats to turn it into a home. Next comes new knees and a new dog or two as we lost both the orange guy and forever puppy last year. It's not home without critters.
Glad you are gettting the new critters first. It really isn't home without critters.
ReplyDeleteI still feel sad whenever I think about Her Majesty :(. I wonder if Reserve Cat is worried it will happen to him...I know when we've had a cat die of old age in the past, the others acted very strange for a long time, like they were worried they'd be next. Enjoy the snuggles!
ReplyDeleteReserve Cat knew Her Majesty had first dibs on affection. This is him relaxing enough to cuddle. Now he may think he has years of cuddles to make up for. Be prepared! And if Spousal Unit won't turn on the furnace, you have a living hot water bottle...
