And In The Unbelievably Bad Food Category

In other news, we have a new PC, so I am still figuring out where everything is (Windows 10 - faugh).

  2. This would probably go over pretty well in Hawai'i; I understand they are really, really fond of Spam over here. I don't eat meat, but I've heard that ham and peaches go well together. (That or it's a Monty Python skit.)

The Powers That Be have tied up my computer for the last 24 hours, making "improvements". I still haven't found where they hid my email.

  3. I had heard that about Hawaiians, also.

Ham is one of the few meats I like with fruit (the other being turkey but only with cranberry sauce).

  4. I do pork chops with peaches or sliced pears and a bit of ginger. The other half won't eat fruit other than apples, so I have learned to hide it in plain sight so he'll eat it. That Spam recipe is right up there with marshmallow salad.
My sympathies on the Win10 conversion. I keep ducking, but I know it's coming one day.

  5. Betty Crocker's Boys and Girls Cookbook from the very early 60's (why, yes, I DO have a copy, tattered and torn -- the first cookbook I owned) has a spanky recipe for layers of spam alternated with pineapple for an easy "Hawaiian" treat. Heat for 20 minutes and serve. Yum.

It's the equivalent of "Canadian" bacon and pineapple pizza, really.

  6. Spam - the nightmare of my teen age years when Mom the Horrible Cook went on a 3 month Spam kick (that came after the 5 month quiche kick). I say let the Hawaiians have this stuff. Just send the pineapples Stateside.

  7. Ham & peaches do go nicely (if you eat meat). So do chicken & apricots, and if you have some fresh cherries to throw into the sauce . . . yum. (And honestly, I find "Hawaiian" pizza delicious - almost as good as mushroom & black olive.) Spam, however, is something you eat on a camping trip, fried, because you can carry it to the last day, it won't go bad, & the squirrels can't open the tin.
Altho as a person with an interest in medieval cookery, I shouldn't snark it. There are recipes for spiced ham-loaf and other spiced meat loaves and pates going back as far as we have written recipes. It's just that Spam leaves itself so open to jokes.
