The American Red Cross is 100% donor funded (no government money, at all) -- and 50% of those donations come from individual Americans and their families.
That's part of the script we use when we go out on a fire call and process a family for their cash card. "This is not a loan -- you do not have to pay it back. This is a gift from the American people."
