Vintage Magazines - Woman's Day, March 1949

  1. My mother must have saved every Woman's Day magazine she ever bought and moved them from house to house as my dad accepted calls to various parishes. When the old dear shuffled off this mortal coil, I gave each our girls a magazine from the month they were born! October of 62, and March and October of 66. (Yes, they *were* rather close together!)
Eldest Daughter looked through her copy and remarked that it didn't look as if there were any Black people back then.

  2. My mom never really had any magazines in the house, not sure why, but I started buying these and Family Circle when I was a young teenager. I was fascinated with all the crafts and articles. I think that's where I got my first exposure to being a housewife. Mom wasn't, she could sort of cook and she did sew and do other stuff but she wasn't really a homemaker. She started working after she and dad split and I was the main care taker for my four younger sibs. Everything else I either picked up from my dad's mom or these magazines. I can't believe they went from about fifteen cents to several dollars over those years!
