There's A Reason To Classify Them As Weapons

Me (pointing to a "Bagpipes for Beginners" class in the local community college catalog):  How much will you pay me not to register for this?

RN:  If you do that, I'm going to have to sign up for the wine appreciation class...

  1. Forget the wine, take the whiskey class! Seriously, i like bagpipes...outside...on a hil 1/2 mile away.

  2. Our rector is taking bagpipe lessons. It is a lesson for *us* in patience and long-suffering. (At least none of us are married to the man, which is a blessing.) Like Sam, I really enjoy the pipes, but outside, please.

  3. "A gentleman is a man who knows how to play the bagpipes, but doesn't." I can't remember where I read that, but it's true.

  4. Someone should drop a brochure on the new soundproofing batts in the collection plate.

  5. I took that class . . . 35 years ago . . . my parents had a basement.
Seriously, though, they don't start you out on the full pipes-with-drones. You get what's called a "practice chanter," which is the part with the note-holes plus a mouthpiece and reed. It's not *much* louder than a recorder; no worse than a trumpet.
