DROMEDARY COCOANUT MACAROONS
1 1/4 cups Dromedary Cocoanut
1 egg-white
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/3 cup condensed milk
"Mix cocoanut, condensed milk and vanilla thoroughly. Beat egg white until stiff, combine mixtures, shake into cakes. Bake in moderate oven 15 minutes." Good Housekeeping, October 1919.
That sounds interesting, especially if you have friends with celiac disease. It's hard to find recipes that don't call for really weird ingredients. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteOoooh, I love macaroons!
ReplyDeleteNice to see them made the old way without flour.
I've seen at least one mid-century recipe that just uses condensed milk and coconut, the thought of which makes my teeth ache. Way too sweet.
