A childhood without books - that would be no childhood. That would be like being shut out from the enchanted place where you can go and find the rarest kind of joy. ~ Astrid Lindgren
My mom's ONLY bribe to kids at Christmas, vacations or any day was a new book. Punishment was the book being taken away. Thanks to The Provincetown Book Store - we discovered Dover Books and many other titles.
I walked around like that, but not so elegantly, taking my latest book everywhere with me once I learned how to read. Books are magical,as is that Victorian painting.
I learned to read at 3 years old, thanks to my Mom, and I have never been without a book since. I can get inside the minds of long dead authors and live through their words. I can go anywhere and do anything. It is the most mind opening activity I can do.

ReplyDeleteI've always loved to read; it was an escape and an adventure. All three of our girls loved reading as well, and have instilled it in their own kids.
