From The Workbasket magazine, December 1944, comes this 10 inch doll and her clothes, to be made of leftovers of Germantown (worsted) yarn and crochet string. The full issue is a free download from the Antique Pattern Library.I think if I were going to make this as a gift/toy today, I'd use a styrofoam ball for the head and put a little tacky glue to keep the yarn securely covering it.
My grandmothers would not make these dolls, thought all that yarn could be a kid sweater....sigh.
ReplyDeleteThis is where the concept of "planned leftovers" kicks in (although I must admit my mother didn't knit when I was little).
