Children's Crafts - A Pair of Halloween Bookmarks

From the October 1992 issue of Crafts 'N Things, a pair of spooky friends to cut out of felt and make into bookmarks with scraps of ribbon.  The magazine is available on the Internet Archive as a one-hour loan (free, but you need an account to access it). There's also a quite cute black cat puppet pattern.

October is National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month

While you're at it, adopt a shelter cat to be his friend.  You can find them in complementary colors.

Fangs For The Memory

Look at that face.  Look at that face.  Butter wouldn't melt in his mouth, would it?

Brian and I were chatting in the kitchen while he was preparing lunch when the contents of an entire package of Buddig's sliced beef was deftly and silently removed from his hand while he wasn't looking.

From his hand.

Children's Crafts - A Clothesline Woodbasket

Another timely project from the Beard sisters, a wood-basket to make of rope and a couple of old barrel hoops from Indoor and Outdoor Recreations for Girls (this was, after all, first printed in 1914).  Instructions for this and other projects are in a free download from Project Gutenberg.

These are dangerous times.  Never have so many people had so much access to so much knowledge and yet have been so resistant to learning anything. ~ Tom Nichols

Vintage Crafts - A Cat From Agence Eureka

Another pattern from Patricia at Agence Eureka, probably from the 1940s.  You can spend several hours looking at the vintage toys on her Flickr page.

If you don't speak French, the instructions tell you to cut a 3cm x 80 cm strip to sew around the perimeter, treating the tail as part of the main body. The ears are clipped and sewn separately, as in the illustration.

According to the very tongue-in-cheek bureaucrat who handles the National Park Service's social media accounts, this week is also Fat Bear Week.

You Scratch My Back

Why no, as a matter of fact.  He is not allowed up there.

In as blatant an exhibition of quid pro quo as I personally have ever encountered, while I was on a Red Cross conference call this morning, someone leaped up on the kitchen counter and hooked a tupperware container full of poached chicken breasts onto the floor for his German shepherd brothers.

Children's Crafts - A Mouse Bookmark for National Book Month

From Pack O Fun, Summer 1990, a bookmark to make of white plastic (I think an Ivory dishwashing liquid bottle would provide enough flat space).  From the Summer 1990 issue, which can be found on the Internet Archive.  Alas, it is no longer a free download but an hourly online loan.
