Timing Is Everything

Well, the movers arrived first thing and the house is now empty and waiting for the floor refinishing team to arrive tomorrow. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING is either on a moving truck or stacked in the garage.

So the letter that the morning mail brought us from the IRS asking about our 2020 return could possibly have come at a worse time...but I doubt it.

Quote Of The Day

PRAYER OF THE DOG

Lord,
I keep watch!
If I am not here,
who will guard their house?
watch over their sheep?
be faithful?
No one but You and I
understand
what faithfulness is.
They call me "Good dog!  Nice dog!"
Words...
I take their pats
and the old bones they throw me
and I seem pleased.
They really believe they make me happy.
I take kicks, too
when they come my way.
None of that matters.
I keep watch!
Lord,
do not let me die
until, for them, all danger is driven away.
AMEN. ~ Rumer Godden

Musical Crafts - A Washtub Bass from 1955

Played by all the 'coolest cats.' I'm going to have to make this - if I can persuade my oldest sister to bring her accordion to the next family function, the utter mortification of everyone's teenagers is assured.

"Darkness Cannot Drive Out Darkness..."

...Only light can do that.  Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."

Caturday!

I suppose this sort of thing runs in the family - the Little Man chases the exercise bike.

Quote Of The Day

There is a wind where the rose was,
Cold rain where sweet grass was,
And clouds like sheep
Stream o'er the steep
Grey skies where the lark was. ~ Walter de la Mare

Tatting - A Ladies' Necktie from 1872

From the Ladies' Own Paper, March 30th, 1872, what purports to be a ladies' necktie but I don't see how.  Certainly it would make an unusual bookmark, and not too difficult if you have mastered the art of climbing out of a ring.  Left-click to enlarge.

2Cold 2Quack

If it walks like a duck and gets cold like a duck...(recommend listening with the sound enabled, if only to hear the sanctuary workers helpless with laughter).

Happy National Houseplant Appreciation Day

So far he has knocked over the Christmas cactus and the spider plant (after ripping off all the babies).

Quote Of The Day

A man is usually born in bed, and spends at least half his life in bed.  If he is lucky, he dies in bed.  We used to think that the best place to die was on the battlefield, face to the foe, etc., but that was when we were much younger and more casual about dying. ~ Damon Runyon

Woodcrafting - A 1940s Whatnot Shelf From Old Spools

I'm not sure how sturdy this would be, but here's another Ruth Wyeth Spears project, this one from Let's Make A Gift (available to read online at Hathi Trust).  The curtain rods may help keep it from tipping over, but I don't know if you can find curtain rods that narrow nowadays.  Maybe use very thin dowels?

This project may work better as dollhouse furniture.
