Vintage Kid's Crafts - A PomPom Polar Bear

From Pack O Fun, December, 1994, something to keep them occupied on a snow day (we have half an inch of ice on the roads, every school in the county is closed, or rather, having an "e-learning day." Another joy today's generation will never experience).

This used to be on archive.org but has mysteriously disappeared.

Quote of the Day

But if anyone abuses one of these little ones who believes in me, it would be better for him to have a heavy boulder tied around his neck and be hurled into the deepest sea, than to face the punishment he deserves.  Matthew 18:6

Other Crafts - A Leaf Leather Belt from 1960

An attractive and not too difficult belt to make from leather scraps and a purchased buckle. This was found in Handcrafts for the Homebound Handicapped, published long before parents began waking up to the idea that all children have the right to a public education.  It's on page 36 of a one-hour borrow from archive.org.

In Remembrance

We are here in a general sense because first and foremost we are American citizens and we are determined to apply our citizenship to the fullness of its meaning  We are here also because of our love for democracy, because of our deep-seated belief that democracy transformed from thin paper to thick action is the greatest form of government on earth. ~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Quote of the Day

image from Pinterest

He'd noticed that sex bore some resemblance to cookery: It fascinated people, they sometimes bought books full of complicated recipes and interesting pictures, and sometimes when they were really hungry they created vast banquets in their imagination -- but at the end of the day they'd settle quite happily for egg and chips, if it was well done and maybe had a slice of tomato. ~ Terry Pratchett

Vintage Workbaskets - A Knitted Rug and a Bonus Project from 1955

From the stash I brought home from Detroit, two projects from the June 1955 Workbasket magazine - a crocheted belt and a round rug, knitted in wedges and finished off with a fringe.

I wonder what size it would be using #15 needles and t-shirt yarn; a good four feet across, I imagine.  Left-click to enlarge, or download from my Flickr account.

Retro* Needlework - Five Hairpin Lace Edgings from 1969

I rarely post hairpin lace patterns, so here are five from Elegant Edgings, published by the Coats & Clarks Company in 1969.  Three pages of instructions on my Flickr account.

(*anything younger than I am is not vintage).
