Or like my girl, the big clumps happen twice a year and the rest of it just falls off as they walk? My little boy needs to go in to the groomer and get his "ruff" trimmed, just has a massive fur collar just below his neck that seems miserable in our summers here.

Black labs are pretty much the same way. I could brush Pepper for an hour, and then she'd shake and there'd still be a cloud of hair around her.
Maine Coons also shed 2x a year - for 5 months at a time...
