Or Maybe Submarine Week

We got seven inches of rain in one hour and forty-five minutes this weekend, and about an inch and a half of that, made its way to our finished basement. Note to self: there will be no more keeping yarn in decorative baskets on the floor.  EDITED TO ADD:  Don't expect much from me this week.

It's the books. Every single bookshelf will have to be emptied, the books checked for damage, the shelf pulled away from the wall and set in front of the fan. We have 18 bookshelves.

Books - EEK!

We've only lost about two dozen books so far but several were from my collection of original 19th century women's Civil War memoirs.

Shay, is there a historical society or college library nearby? They might be able to help you restore some of the memoirs.

Hope things are drying out for you.

Oh no. I'm sorry to hear about this. I'd cry...my favourite things in life...books and yarn. I hope you can save some of them.

May, I'm afraid by the time I got them up out of the water they had pretty much disintegrated. They were original copies but not in very good shape when I bought them (or I wouldn't have been able to afford them).

How awful. Books are memories, especially those books, so it's a double loss. At least they can be tossed in the recycling bin, if that's any comfort.
