My oldest sister was watching this the other night and suddenly her husband's picture flashed on the screen.

WOW. That must have been a shock! We've watched this a few episodes at a time and it's excellent and heartbreaking in turns.
We watched that,too. Incomprehensible from this distance in time. We, too, found onr of our in an invasion of Europe film where the other half's father was left for dead on the beach. You can see him get shot and fall. Fortunately, he was rescued before the tide came in. Looking at the young people in my neighbour, I wouldn't wish war on any of them.
And how long have we been in Afghanistan? Long enough now that sons are fighting the same battles their fathers did. I'm just afraid the Current Occupant is going to lead us into a really, really yuge war.
I've often wondered if that ever happened. It must create mixed emotions.
