Thoughts On Yet Another Deployment

photo from the Des Moines Register

Logistics AD:  Have you seen the new warehouse guy? He's the size of the soda machine!

Me:  Nice.  Maybe we can save some money by returning that forklift we rented.

**********************************

Distribution Volunteer:  Well, I learned something last night.

Me:  ?

DV:  Never drink a Red Bull slushie at 3pm.

********************************

I'm very popular.  Anyone who wants a rental car has to come to me.  Also, anyone who wants a ride to the airport so they can fly home has to come to me.

There must be some way I can turn this into an income opportunity.

My oldest sister, who lives in Jefferson City, MO, texted me at 6am to let me know that their library was not hit by the tornado.  That tells you all you need to know about our family priorities.

Quote Of The Day

To acquire the habit of reading is to construct for yourself a refuge from almost all the miseries of life. ~ W. Somerset Maugham

Other Help

Little Man "helping" make up the spare room bed. He's as big as Batdog now, but longer-bodied and with larger paws.  I'm shuddering at what size he'll be once he's grown into all that.

Aunt Martha's Workbasket, November, 1936

Working our way through the 1930's with the Workbasket magazine for November, 1936.  Lots of embroidery transfer patterns (including the obligatory racial stereotypes), a set of crocheted  animal puppets, a rather pretty crocheted pot-holder in the shape of a calla lily, which will be forever associated in my mind with Katherine Hepburn at her droopiest, and the Delectable Mountains quilt pattern.

Free download at the Antique Pattern Library.

EDITED TO CORRECT THE YEAR: which is 1936, not 1937.  Workbaskets wouldn't start showing their year/month until after the war (I think).

Quote Of The Day

"Constellations," by Maggie Vandewalle

In a rapidly ascending balloon were two men.  One watched the earth getting farther and farther away. One watched the stars getting nearer and nearer. ~ Joseph Wood Krutch

Travel is Broadening

It is perhaps unfortunate that one major result of last month's trip is that when someone calls anybody who disagrees with them a Nazi, I have this overwhelming urge to batter them senseless.
