Back Fire

It might be worth getting on Twitter just for this woman.

This Could Have Been Better Phrased

Me:  (After searching in vain for a half-dozen of his toys)  Where the hell did all his balls go?

Knitting - Military Scarf and Gloves from 1951

Another project to knit for servicemen from Smart Knitting, Vol. 8, 1951.  Instructions on my Flickr account will probably need to be enlarged, but are readable.

Vintage Magazines - Action

"The Best In Lusty Adventure," from October, 1953. The cover, by Joe Szokoli, was the best thing about it.

Unwelcome Attentions

Minnie outgrew her schoolgirl crush on Reserve Cat fairly quickly.  Now, evidently, the shoe is on the other foot...er, paw.

He has taken to creeping up on her and conducting himself in a manner unbecoming and there's a very Ruth Buzzi/Arte Johnson flavor to the entire situation.

Knitting - A Sleeveless Pullover for Servicemen

From Smart Knitting, 8th Edition - 1951 and in the middle of the Korean War, a sleeveless pullover.  It was part of the Servicemen's Section, which claimed "We've surveyed the boys themselves to find out what they actually want and would find most useful."

One page of instructions may be found on my Flickr account.

January 15th

Of course, all I am doing today is knitting preemie hats for the AHA.  Does that count?

The Letter Of The Law

Enter Reserve Cat, stage right.  Batdog bounces up and starts prodding him with one forepaw.

Me: Nein!  Bad dog!

Batdog looks at me, reaches out a tentative paw and takes another swipe at Reserve Cat.

Me:  No, stop.  Nein!  Leave that cat alone!

Batdog whirls around and jumps on Sheba instead.

Workbasket Magazines - September, 1945

With patterns for men's knitted socks or anklets, a crocheted elephant, a Morning Glory quilt, and a crocheted "cascade" of flowers to dress up a blouse or dress.  The pdf can be downloaded from the Antique Pattern Library website.

Quote Of The Day

Most cats are absolutely tactless; they are easily bored (showing their boredom in a manner which it is perfectly impossible to construe otherwise), and have the rooted conviction that the human inhabitants of the worlds were created solely amuse, feed and shelter them. ~ E. F. Benson

Grrrsday - Swallows Starlings

The art of flying - short 2 min version from Jan van IJken on Vimeo.

Like the elephants and the giraffes, this is amazing.  Unlike them, this is real.

EDITED TO ADD:  School was cancelled because of the sub-zero cold and wind chill.  The New Kids are sitting on the windowsill watching birds in the birdfeeder. Reserve Cat is roaming around the house with a peeved expression on his face because he can't go outside. Brian and Batdog are playing keep-away with Batdog's stuffed duck.

I'm waiting for something to break.

Workbasket Magazine - September, 1944 (maybe)

Another issue of Workbasket from the Antique Pattern Library.  Again, if my arithmetic is correct, Volume 9 is September.

Projects include a crocheted apron, "shoulderette," several knitted edgings, a tatting lesson, and the quilt pattern 54-40 or Fight.
