Happy Easter

From the McLean County Historical Museum. The back of the card has a message from a little girl recovering from chickenpox, poor kid

The roof is done, except for putting the gutters back up.  We will be picking pieces of shingles out of the grass and the patio for the foreseeable future, but at least we have a roof.

Also, for the first time in a week Brian is getting a real dinner instead of sandwiches or warmed over spaghetti or pizza. He’ll also be able to eat at 6pm instead of 8 or 9.  Damn Daylight Savings Time, anyway.

Ham, new potatoes, peas, rolls, and a relish tray (devilled eggs, homemade pickles, olives, carrots, celery), with banana cream pie for dessert.  If he falls asleep over it, I won’t blame him a bit.

Silver Lining Dep't

It pissed down rain yesterday.  At least we now know all the places where we need more tar-paper.

Not Quite What I Wanted To See Just Now

He is re-roofing the house with his brother and three teenaged boys.  When I walked in the house this morning after running an errand I noticed the first aid kit had been brought out of the cupboard.

There Will Always Be An England

155-year old (and still functioning) mousetrap

The following email was sent one morning early last month by the Assistant Curator of the Museum of English Rural Life to the staff.

“There appears to be a dead mouse in this mousetrap, which is not described as being there on the database.”

I Think He's On To Us

Someone just lay down on top of the adoption paperwork I downloaded from the Humane Society.

Crochet - A Potholder from 1952

From the November, 1952 Workbasket magazine.  Instructions are on my Flickr account. If the jpg looks a bit lopsided, it's because I was playing around with our new printer/scanner (which Reserve Cat doesn't care for as he can't sleep on top of it the way he could the old one).

Something I Never Thought I'd Hear Myself Saying

“My Impala has mice.”

Quote Of The Day

Spring was moving in the air above him and in the earth below and around him, penetrating even his dark and lowly little house with its spirit of divine discontent and longing. ~ Kenneth Grahame
