Vintage Leatherwork - a Belt from 1938
This is the sort of "make do and mend" craft that was popular during the Depression and then later when people were enduring rationing. Although nowadays you could certainly haunt thrift stores for old leather purses or ponchos, probably the most reasonably priced way to create this would be purchasing a bag of leather scraps online. From Mechanics Illustrated, Deember 1938.

Those who would renegotiate the boundaries between church and state must therefore answer a difficult question: Why would we trade a system that has served us so well for one that has served others so poorly? ~ Sandra Day O'Connor

I, On The Other Hand, Didn't Get A Single One
When we returned from our cruise, one of Baldur's second graders gave him this. It evidently has been riding around in his backpack since the 14th, as there is a badly smashed piece of candy taped to the back.
It's the thought that counts, right?

Quote Of The Day
Any act of love, however - no matter how small - lessens anxiety's grip, gives us a taste of tomorrow, and eases the yoke of our fears. Love, unlike virtue, is not its own reward. The reward of love is peace of mind, and peace of mind is the end of man's desiring. ~ Harper Lee
