My experience with banquets always was that I was one of the last ones served, the first to perform/speak, and get back to my seat to find my plate had been removed. Now, if I have to do anything other than eat, I eat before I go.
I have to attend a lot of lunchtime functions. God bless the box lunch. Boring, but at least everybody gets fed.
