Hummm, my basement is faulty, as it does not have one of these...
I have an Amish friend - no clothes dryer - and her husband made something very similar to this from "pex", which is a very flexible PVC pipe. He also added an inside ring, so she has lots of room to hang stuff. Pretty nifty.
