And in other news, I'm headed back to the Quad Cities tomorrow for this.

The news I heard yesterday said no one was physically hurt and the building maintenance was lacking. Is this 'for want of a nail' territory, or something worse? You do go to all the best places. Take care.

Shades of the surfside! I can't imagine anything in the world more frightening that to have the floor fall out from under you - and take the walls with it! As Bunny said, please be careful.

Holy Cow, what a mess. Thank God no one was killed. I live in the Albany, NY area and a lot of the older brick buildings there are doing this too. None have yet collapsed but it is only a matter of time with no upkeep. Stay safe.

I wonder if they could put a construction style rubble chute up the open side of the building and lure pets so they could slide down. I'd go nuts thinking about those poor creatures.

This is greed pure and simple. Heard they rescued a woman off the top floor last night, so much for "we checked every apt" nonsense. I grieve for the families losing everything but to NOT rescue the animals? Criminal in every sense.

I'm wishing I could bring the Little Man with me. I'm pretty sure I'm going to need some therapy, myself.

I always ask the other half to phone home when he's away for a while because the critters start giving me the 'what did you do with dad' look by the second day.
Maybe you could phone home for a puppy therapy session? This sounds like it's going to be rough. Remember, someone has to care for the care givers. Don't neglect yourself if can avoid it. Virtual glass of wine on me.

Sorry for the bit of nagging. You're so much braver than me, I cannot judge the hazards well enough.

A brief bright note: A resident was holding their cat when the floor suddenly dropped out from underneath them. They were trapped and the first responders had to amputate a leg to get them out. The kitten had disappeared.

On Thursday, someone found the miraculously still-alive kitten and brought it to the Humane Society.
