Sewing - An Egg Cosy from 1953

From the March, 1953 Workbasket, an chick egg cosy that uses rickrack for a comb.  I have no idea if egg cosies are still in use but I'm open to suggestions for other uses.

Two pages of instructions can be found on my Flickr account.

Not in use that I know about. But my Gran used them to hide goodies for the grandkids in a plastic egg under the cozy. Or fill with catnip and see what Reserve Cat and new Kitten(s) do with it.

My grandmother had a couple of them, but she didn't have much use for them. A gift from a certain family member who always gave you dumb stuff. The idea, apparently, was to keep a soft boiled egg warm, but it you kept it warm too long, it continued to cook.

I thought initially that these could be adapted to make potholders, but then realized they are the wrong shape.

Still, the ricrac idea is clever.
