Vintage Crochet - A Yarn Doll And Her Wardrobe from 1944

From The Workbasket magazine, December 1944, comes this 10 inch doll and her clothes, to be made of leftovers of Germantown (worsted) yarn and crochet string.  The full issue is a free download from the Antique Pattern Library.

I think if I were going to make this as a gift/toy today, I'd use a styrofoam ball for the head and put a little tacky glue to keep the yarn securely covering it.

My grandmothers would not make these dolls, thought all that yarn could be a kid sweater....sigh.

This is where the concept of "planned leftovers" kicks in (although I must admit my mother didn't knit when I was little).
