Further Signs That The Apocalypse Is Upon Us

Photographed this afternoon in the main hallway of a local junior high school.

I choose to believe that's a pun... these days what we called Home Ec is now Family and Consumer Science, or FACS.

Not really sure why that class would have anything to do with literacy, though.

Karen, I was hoping that this was the case, that it was some kind of in-joke. But I looked all over that display and didn't see a little asterisk or smiley face...

Maybe they forgot to put it on? Let's hope so!

I doubt the schools here would think to asterisk FACS... it's one of those jargon-y things that they forget the rest of the world doesn't instantly recognize.

That is awesome. It would fit right in at the school I saw with the motto "EXCELLING IN EXCELLENCE."

Shouldn't that be FAQS? That would at least make more sense.

Ah! I see all those food items in the photo, so FACS is in context. Are they are trying to tell us that illiteracy is a disability in the kitchen and supermarket. A moot point if you can actually read the display! But can those kids can make porridge and white sauce without lumps? That's what I learned in Junior High Home Ec.
