Vintage Advertising- Ide Collars

Copyright-free, from Dover.  I think that's an engagement ring he's slipping onto her finger.

Why did they do away with detachable (or "tachable") collars and cuffs? Must have been uncomfortable? I can remember my grandmother spending her evenings picking stitches and turning the collars and cuffs on my grandfather's and my dad's white shirts. I have no idea how she did it, but the shirts would look new when she got done.

I can remember in the early 70's taking my dad's old shirts (he wore a suit and tie every day. In summer it was a seersucker jacket and shorts. Seriously) and replacing the worn out collars with ones cut of bright calico or denim.

Very modish, in those days.

If comfort were not a concern, I would love to have detachable collars.

And I think the guy may be playing "pull my finger."
