Das teure Vaterland

That nice man from the CDC contacted my sweet, lovely boss last week, to let her know that he had passed on our forms to their radiation response unit for review.

And oh, by the way -- a certain state on the southeastern seaboard is having a full-scale nuclear incident exercise later this year, and he thought it would be a great idea if the two of us flew down there to help out, given that we are SME's (Subject Matter Experts).

My sweet, lovely boss said we'd love to.  And then asked, sweetly and lovelily, "Who will pay for it?"

Ah yes...well.

And they never reimbursed for the forms, either !?!

Nice to know someone in the trenches can teach those in the office! Now the trick is to get the office to pay up.

Hmmm, maybe you could make some money offering your expertise in Canada. There's a nuclear plant in Pickering (near Toronto) and one in Darlington (somewhere near north shore of Lake Ontario.) I've lived in Toronto most of my life and don't remember there ever being public information or training on what to do in the event of a nuclear accident. The Pickering area is heavily populated (for Canada), so keeping property values up and panic down is probably the reason the whole nuclear thing has been downplayed for decades.
