Alea Jacta Est

He registered for this today.  My one consolation is that he is competing in the "light" category -- full 26.2 miles, but without the 35-lb pack.

(He told me that his surgeon would kill him if he competed in the "heavy" category).

Not to mention what his wife would do to him, I suppose.

After 31 years, I just make sure the insurance premiums are paid up.

My dad barely survived the TB he picked up in the Phillipines during 1940; he was transported back home to die, but survived experimental surgery at Johns Hopkins. Every other guy in Dad's unit died in the Bataan death march. Dad was a military courier and attached to Arlington National Cemetery during WW2 (Tomb of Unknown Soldier).
After his first tour in Iraq, my son mentioned he had "some TB in the lungs." I went insane mama and promised to show up at the doctor's office if he didn't get a full body CAT scan. Sure enough, he had TB in his neck bones, lungs, and ankles. Now full time National Guard, he just filed paperwork that he can walk his PT - the ankle just won't support running.

And people are freaking out about MERS CoV and Ebola...we've forgotten what a scourge TB was in this country.

We used to hospitalize TB patients, but now they are left to take care of themselves
(there really ought to be some sort of "half-way" care for TB patients) and a large percentage don't take their meds are prescribed. We are well on our way to another scourge of drug-resistant TB if we don't soon come to our senses.
