I already have all my copies out and am re-reading them. I want to know what next to watch out for. Yeesh.

I am thinking that you may need a new and specific category in these perilous times...something with a bit more...heft. Say, perhaps,
"People who need aircraft carriers dropped on them".
For those of you doing reading lists, I am horrified to say that Mein Kampf provides a pretty close blueprint of current tactics.

If you want to know what's next, these are the four pieces of legislation on the docket for this week.

Disapprove Interior Department’s Stream Buffer Rule - HJRESXXXX

This measure would disapprove, under terms of the Congressional Review Act (CRA), the Interior Department's Stream Buffer Rule requiring that surface coal mining operations be designed to minimize the amount of waste placed outside the mined-out area, thus minimizing the amount of land disturbed.

Disapprove SEC Oil and Gas Anti-Bribery Rule - HJRESXXXX

The measure would disapprove, under terms of the CRA, a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) rule issued in July 2016 that requires resource extraction issuers (companies that extract oil, natural gas or minerals) that are registered in the United States to provide detailed, public reporting of certain payments to governments that equal or exceed $100,000 per project annually.

Disapprove Instant Criminal Background Check Rule - HJRESXXXX

The measure would disapprove, under terms of the CRA, a December 2016 Social Security Administration rule that could make it easier for certain mentally challenged individuals to be placed on the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), thereby restricting them from purchasing firearms.

Disapprove Labor Law Rule - HJRESXXXX

The measure would disapprove, under terms of the CRA, a Defense Department, General Services Administration and NASA rule that requires federal contractors to self-certify violations of 14 specified federal labor laws and equivalent state laws. The laws include the Fair Labor Standards Act, Occupational Safety and Health Act, National Labor Relations Act, Davis-Bacon Act, and Americans with Disabilities Act, among others.

Disapprove Venting and Flaring Rule - HJRESXXXX

The measure would disapprove, under terms of the CRA, a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) rule issued in November 2016 that requires oil and gas producers to implement measures that reduce natural gas waste.

Five -- I can't count.

Well, no wonder you can't count. That list would rattle anybody's back teeth. The psychiatrists keep saying there's no evidence of insanity, but - heck! most of them are crazy, too.

Good Lord, deliver us.

Write your congresscritter. Mine hews slavishly to the GOP party line so my letters are along the lines of "Tell me how you plan to vote on these pieces of legislation and if your answer is "yes" explain to me why?

From experience up here with a similarly minded but less emboldened PM: look for disappearing data. Our former PM, now a consultant on all things right wing, used cover of 'improving/modernizing' data stored on paper to destroy decades of fisheries and oceans data that cannot be replaced, to give one example. And, btw, the mosque shooter in Quebec City is a fascist Marine Le Pen fan and loner, a white French Canadian boy, not an immigrant/refugee/Muslim. I usually take my Irish grandfather's advice to never discuss religion or politics outside the family, but I feel for you all and am holding my breath.

Bunny, most of us feel as if we are on the brink of another World War. It is absolutely terrifying.

Shay said...

Bunnykins, fortunately it's hard to completely destroy electronic data.

Oh, man, am I glad I checked in with you . . . I need to write some more letters; I had no idea!

My US rep keeps sending me questionnaires about the ACA that are carefully designed to make the responder admit that the coverage received is inadequate, expensive, or otherwise sucks.

Dishonest bastard.

I feel so in the dark sometimes... where do I look to find the legislation coming up for votes? I'd like to be more proactive in writing my reps (one of whom is much like yours, though another is not), but I don't know where to go to become better informed.
Thank you for helping spread information!

Kathleen, I'm signed up for Megavote; it keeps me updated.

Shay said...

Meant to add -- it's free. You list your district when you sign up.

It tells you what was voted on in the past week, how your Congresscritter/Senator voted, and what's coming up.

Kathleen C. said...

Thank you! I signed up right away! And I'll be passing this address on to others I know will appreciate it...

Thank you for the link. I have two Democrat Senators, and one of them is Chuck Shumer. So there is not a lot of pushing needed on him to oppose the Republican Congress' craziness. I just want to help other areas that have more complacent representatives.
