Looks like two clam shells to me.

When I was in my teens I wore my hair VERY long, and sometimes braided into a crown. My mum insisted I wear a hat to church (we're talking the early 50's) so I found a little doily very similar to this and put it inside the crown. I had on a "hat" but she still wasn't happy.

I had something like this, some years ago - it had started out to be a doily, only it cupped, so when I put my hair in a knot, I put the ex-doily over it as decoration and loose-end control.

That's so cute. Better than the wide headband type things we used to wear to church when I was a teen. After a while, the spring in them hurt.

Yup. The springs began to feel as if they were going to meet behind your eyeballs!
