The Maine Coons love to sleep under the tree. The bottom third is all non-breakable ornaments. And yes, we do tie the top of the tree to two heavy bookcases. Previous felines have climbed and knocked over the tree, batted ornaments all over and drunk the tree water (that causes vile puking).

In our house, the cat would be UNDER that cover in nothing flat! And then pull the entire business down.
