Quote Of The Day

You may perhaps be brought to acknowledge that it is very well worthwhile to be tormented for two or three years of one's life, for the sake of being able to read all the rest of it. ~ Jane Austen

Jane, her sisters, and us are all lucky that they were allowed to learn to read and write at a time when education for women was mostly neglected, even if that learning was torture. We are so lucky to have wonderful children's authors and public libraries.

I agree with Bunnykins. I'd also like to note that for me, learning to read wasn't torture. It was far more akin to have the door of a wonderful treasure trove unlocked. I remember how suddenly there was words everywhere!
