Aunt Martha's Workbasket, June 1937

Not a lot of content in this month's issue but this crocheted outfit (skirt, blouse and capelet) is pretty, and there are instructions for making a Trip Around The World quilt, and an embroidery pattern for a "Singing Mexican Boy."  Free download at the Antique Pattern Library.

The cover model is wondering where the hell her drink was!

I don't quilt; I read quilting magazines instead. From 'cut 117 squares of this and 99 squares of that" to "Quilt in a Day", "stack and whack", fabric cakes, new cutting tools and sewing machines with wide harps. My great aunt used to set up her quilting frame in the parlour every winter to work on after the harvest was in and they 'only' had the dairy herd to look after. She did everything by hand.

My mother hand-pieced her quilts but sent them off to a lady in Ohio to be handquilted.

I'm going to be taking a break from Workbasket - I recently acquired a little stash of children's craft books (and found a couple more on line) with some irresistible projects.
