I bought some Crown Imperial bulbs not too long after we moved into this house. They were advertised as having a "distinctive odor" which repels moles in the lawn. Sounded good to me, so I mailed off my check and waited.

The UPS driver gave me a funny look when he handed me the package, but I didn't give it much thought. A little later, I noticed an odd smell, and wondered if the dog, The Squire, or the UPS driver had tracked something icky into the house.

I finally traced the smell to the package. That "distinctive odor" is the delicate aroma of dog dirt!

I think the smell might work for me. We have chipmunks which the other half doesn't like and two large tom cats who lounge in the garden and drive my house cats crazy. I know just where to plant them - luckily far enough away from the patio. Maybe I'll get some onion scented giant allium to plant beside them as they bloom later. Under the heading of gardening as a defence against unwanted critters.
