In durance vile
This morning I went down to the storage room at the very end of the basement to retrieve some 2007 financial paperwork. It took me a while but I finally found the right file, turned off the light, and carefully closed and latched the door as our cats have a bad habit of sneaking in there when our backs are turned.
It was a Sunday much like any other; we went to ReallyTinyVille for the volunteer fire department’s pancake and sausage breakfast. After that we drove to Smug City for a couple of hours and when we got home, we took Funnyface for a long walk and then had a nice nap. A calm and peaceful day of rest.
Until around 6pm when it finally dawned on me that I had not seen the Drama Queen all day; in fact, Reserve Cat had occupied the spot on the sofa during my nap she usually claims.
Hell hath no fury like a cat that has been locked in a dark, cold room for several hours. She came up from the basement riding on the spousal unit’s shoulder with a look in her eye like Boadicea getting ready to descend on the 9th Legion, and proceeded to tell us in no uncertain terms what kind of people we were.
After she was done, she slapped Reserve Cat away from the food dish and settled down to make up for lost time.

*snerk* That's funny. (but don't tell her I said that!)
I used to lose Annie once in a while, but she was never seriously annoyed. I think she might have been glad to get away from the dogs for a while.
A couple of weeks ago I was getting ready to take the dogs out for a potty break. I've got the french doors closed between the front room and living room so I don't have to heat the front room, so I was standing there with my hand on the doorknob, and Taenzer beside me wagging her tail, all ready to go. No Timber. Called him. No Timber. Called him again, a little louder. Still no Timber. At this point I'm starting to get worried and look down at Taenzer to say, "Well, Taenzer, where is he?" She shoved the doors with her nose, I opened the door, and, yup, there was Timber. I'd gone in earlier to get something, and somehow managed to overlook the 75 pound GSD at my heels...
I don't know why he didn't bark or something, goofy boy, but I was interested in Taenzer's reaction. She always used to be able to find Annie for me on request; guess she's going to extend the ability to Timber.
And she went and got herself shut in a kitchen cupboard this afternoon!
From another Midwesterner in another Tinyville:
Your Drama Queen could be my Drama Queen -- or Drama King. How a 15-lb. cat can sneak past silently, and disappear into the corner of a small well-lit room, is still a mystery to me even after years of keeping cats. I suspect it's a good thing that I don't have an exact simultaneous translation of the feline verbal complaints. :-)
I suspect it's a good thing none of us speak Cat. I had to extrapolate what she was saying based on her tone of miaouw.
