Vintage Knitting - A Lacy Summer Sweater from 1966

From the August, 1966 issue of Workbasket magazine, a summer sweater to knit (although I think I'd make it short-sleeved).  Left-click to enlarge, or go to my  Flickr account to download.

Quote of the Day

May is a green as no other
May is much sun through small leaves
May is soft earth,
And apple-blossoms,
And windows open to a South wind. ~ Amy Lowell

Grrrsday

This is our last week reading at District 87.  Baldur got a chew toy made by the junior high student council, and I got a very nice letter from one of the fifth graders, telling me how much they enjoyed talking with me, and how sweet Baldur was, then adding "...and you get me out of math class."

Vintage Tatting - An Edging from 1947

From Workbasket, October 1947, an intriguing variation on the standard "bunch of grapes" tatted Vandyke edging.  The entire issue (including another tatting pattern) is available as a free download from the Vintage Pattern Library.

It's worth noting that 1947 seems to have been the year that WB started running advertisements.

Acts of creation are ordinarily reserved for gods and poets.  To plant a pine, one need only own a shovel. ~ Aldo Leopold.
