Thus times do shift; each thing his turne do's hold;
New things succeed, as former things grow old. ~ Robert Herrick

One Of These Things Is Not Like The Other

After three months in residence, the New Kids are definitely two distinct personalities (I almost typed purrsonalities, but decided to spare you the pun).

Sheba is a little pistol; she climbs the curtains, pulls flowers out of vases and scatters them on the tabletop, knocks over pot plants (she smashed Petunia), chews holes in the kitty litter bags, and ambushes the dogs.  She also has decided that Reserve Cat is all hat and no trousers, and torments him whenever she gets a chance.

Sheba's favorite pastime is to dash at top speed from the kitchen to the living room without touching the floor.  I have no doubt that when summer comes and we start letting them outside, she's going to be the one dragging home rabbits twice her size and still living.

Minnie is whiny, clingy, greedy, and a scaredy-cat. Having said that -- she likes to cuddle and hasn't broken anything.

Yet.

Boys Will Be Boys

Chunk had his second eval for therapy dog certification this evening at the county nursing home.  He did very well (we've been working on his indiscriminate kissing habits), sat nicely for a dozen little old ladies fondling his ears, made friends with the staff, lay down quietly between visits, and didn't try to climb in anyone's lap.

(Okay, he got a bit pawsy with a male nurse but cut it out when I corrected him).

Then on the way out the door he lifted his leg on a laundry cart.

The Cone Of Shame

Poor Batdog. To add insult to injury, he's scaring the cats.

Edited to add:  He's feeling better, in fact he's figured out how to scoop up his ball with it.  The cats are still afraid of it, though.

Ready Or Not?

Man, I'm glad I don't live in Idaho.  What's your state's readiness score?

In other news, we now have a working furnace.

Kittehs Roasting By An Open Fire

Roasting by an enclosed woodstove, rather.  I'd be down there with them if I were skinny enough.

I can't believe that furnace only lasted 21 years.  They just don't make 'em like they used to.

This Can't End Well

I have three cats in my lap.

The Malevolence of Inanimate Objects

Our furnace stopped working sometime Tuesday night.  The technician, a nice young former SeaBee, was out yesterday afternoon and replaced various bits and pieces and by the time Brian got home we had heat again.

Around midnight the damned thing switched from producing heat to pumping out cold air and it is 54° in here.  The tech is back and I can only imagine what this trip is going to cost us.

Update:  The new furnace will be installed Monday. Thank God for that wood-burning stove.

Sam's Cross (Tatting from 1953)

Sam's very well-done version of this cross, of which she was kind enough to send me a photo. It's always nice when someone actually uses one of the patterns that's posted here!

He Is So Not Speaking To Me

On top of all of the other wanton cruelties I've inflicted on Reserve Cat in the last ten months, I stepped on him this afternoon.

I have no idea where I got this -- it may have fallen out of a recently-purchased vintage cookbook.  Look at those prices!

A Hostile Environment

In spite of 3" of snow, our hardy band made it to a Girl Scout camp in Woodford County for their Zombie Apocalypse/Emergency preparedness event today. The CDC has the right idea.

Reincarnation?

Someone has figured out that if she lies on top of the kitchen stool, she's at just the right height to reach out and smack the dogs' ears when they walk by.
