Vintage Crochet - a Glass Jacket from 1961

A useful summer project from Workbasket magazine, June 1961.  Knit Cro Sheen is still available at Michael's, and this may save your porch furniture from those unpleasant rings that glasses of iced tea can make. The rest of the magazine is available at the Internet Archive.

Vintage Crochet - a Ringing Bells Edging

From Workbasket magazine.  This was another "orphan" page, so I'm guessing the 1950s but not sure. Left-click to enlarge.

Vintage Holiday Project - A Crocheted Shamrock from 1952

This is two days early - but I usually post needlework projects on Tuesday, and I will be at the polls all day.  From Workbasket magazine, March 1952, a rather fetching shamrock motif for a granny square.  Left-click to enlarge.

From The Girl's Own Paper, a monthly periodical issued by the Girls' Friendly Society until well into the 1950's. A quite elaborate pattern for crocheted lingerie lace.

Vintage Crochet - a Doily from 1947

From Woman's Day, April 1957, an advertisement for crochet thread that includes a free pattern.  The entire issue can be downloaded from the Internet Archive and is worth a look.  Lots of mid-century modern home decor, and a small craft section.

Vintage Crochet - A Thread Motif from 1950

From the September, 1950 issue of Workbasket magazine, a delicate motif in thread crochet for a tablecloth or dresser scarf. This is from my own collection, and as of this date, not yet available at the Antique Pattern Library.

Vintage Crochet - Daisy Lace from 1948

From the January, 1948 issue of Workbasket magazine, a rather tricky-looking edging to crochet. Left-click to enlarge.

Vintage Workbasket Crafts - a Two-fer from 1955

From the June, 1955 issue of Workbasket magazine, a belt to crochet and a rug to knit.  Rug yarn is hard to find these days, but I'm wondering if some of the new cotton t-shirt yarns wouldn't work just as well.

This one isn't on the Antique Pattern Library page yet - it's from my own copy.  Left-click to enlarge.

Vintage Crochet - A Christmas Tree from 1951

From Star Needlework Book #83, Crochet for Christmas, a pattern to make the Christmas trees shown.  Apparently (I don't crochet) you make a cone form and then insert fringe.

Instructions for the doll dresses (and so much more) can be found here (scroll down).

Vintage Crochet - Potholders from 1949

Green and white potholders (or "panholders") from the August, 1949 issue of Workbasket magazine.  Made in a t-shirt yarn, these would make nice hotpads, as well.  A copy of this issue can be downloaded from the Antique Pattern Library.

Vintage Crochet - A Daisy Edging from 1960

"Daisy Lace," a pretty edging from Workbasket magazine, January 1960.  Also the Hedenkamp people would like you to start selling their greeting cards.

Vintage Crochet - A Lacy Tablecloth from 1950

From Workbasket magazine, September 1950 - the kind of project that makes me wish I could do thread crochet.  Left-click to enlarge.

Vintage Needlework Books - Anne Orr, Crochet, Cross-stitch and Tatting, 1923

Anything by Anne Orr is worth snapping up, and this one is a very nice 24-page booklet with a variety of projects, including collar & cuff sets, edgings, and a "between-meal cloth" (my between-meal cloth is also my during-meal cloth and my after-meal cloth, but I digress).  A free download from the Antique Pattern Library.

Vintage Crochet - Workbasket Magazine, July 1947

The July 1947 issue is all-crochet, with those adorable pansy pan-holders shown above and a menagerie of crochet animals to applique starting on page 8.

The other projects are booties and a carriage robe for baby, and a rose insertion in filet.  The entire issue can be downloaded for free from the Antique Pattern Library (click on the pdf option at left to download).

Vintage Workbaskets - A Knitted Rug and a Bonus Project from 1955

From the stash I brought home from Detroit, two projects from the June 1955 Workbasket magazine - a crocheted belt and a round rug, knitted in wedges and finished off with a fringe.

I wonder what size it would be using #15 needles and t-shirt yarn; a good four feet across, I imagine.  Left-click to enlarge, or download from my Flickr account.

Vintage Crochet - Some "Pretty Trimmings" from 1918

From the October (not January, as I mistakenly posted yesterday), 1918 issue of Needlecraft magazine and complete with ads, some "pretty trimmings" to make - most of these were probably intended as lingerie or baby edgings.  Left-click to enlarge.  EDITED TO ADD:  this is from a copy that I own, but the Antique Pattern Library has a free pdf of this issue to download here
