Chicago, Chicago, That Toddlin' Town

 

Off to stuff myself with culture for four days - Cendrillon and Carmen at the Chicago Summer Opera series, and then the Willem de Kooning exhibit at the art institute.

Whether this trip will include visits to two of my favorite Loop restaurants (Bereket and the Dearborn) remains to be seen.

Spending the weekend in Chicago being all artsy-fartsy. Ma Rainey's Black Bottom tonight, the Matisse exhibit at the Art Institute and then Mme Butterfly tomorrow.

Minnie came up from the basement after we got home last night* and gave me a cold stare and an angry meow - then turned around and went right back downstairs.  She got over her snit by bedtime, though.

(*she despises the new petsitter, a sweet local high school kid that the dogs, Blitzen and Sheba adore).

Why I am taking vacation when technically I am always on vacation?  Oldest sister is arriving today and we'll be hitting the fleshpots of Chicago* until Saturday.

(*or at least the Art Institute and the Palmer House).

Vintage Knitting - A Patchwork Sweater from 1989

 A retro but still very wearable design from Workbasket magazine, October 1989.  Thriftily knit up from 2 skeins of cream worsted and leftover partial skeins of the other colors, this would look stunning in red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet.
