Quote Of The Day
Trump administration officials have told lawmakers that they plan to put the money raised from their seizure of Venezuelan oil into bank accounts outside the U.S. Treasury. Desjardins clarified that “sources said they understood these as similar [to] or decidedly ‘off-shore’ accounts.”
Yesterday, Trump announced that, as president of the United States, he would control the money from the sale of Venezuelan oil. ~ Heather Cox Richardson.
Re-read that last part.

Vintage Sewing - A Dog Coat from 1976
Another project from last week's Woman's Day Book of Gifts to Make. This made-to-measure coat will ensure Fideaux stays warm this month. The book can be borrowed at the Open Library.

Vintage Children's Crafts - Milk Carton Toys from 1976
From a great and fun book called The Woman's Day Book of Gifts To Make, published in the mid-1970s (which is when I think home crafting with humble supplies really peaked in this country. So many craft magazines after that rely heavily on stores and kits). Left-click to enlarge.
Milk in cartons is hard to find now, but orange juice is still around. This book can be borrowed from the Open Library site. It is free, but an account is required.

Kill Me Now
The most obvious shortcoming of a cruise ship is that you have nowhere else to go.
It becomes even more obvious when the carol singers in the lounge get started on their fourth iteration of Felice Navidad.

The Legend of Bishop Hatto
We are passing through Bingen on the Rhine and the Bishop's Tower is on the north bank (he was a real person and a very cruel man). This poem gave me nightmares when I read it at age nine or so.

Quote of the Day
...our dead shall not return to us while day and night divide
Never while the bars of sunset hold.
But the idle-minded overlings who quibbled while they died,
Shall they thrust for high employments as of old?
Never while the bars of sunset hold.
But the idle-minded overlings who quibbled while they died,
Shall they thrust for high employments as of old?
...their lives cannot repay us - their deaths could not undo -
The shame that they have laid upon our race
But the slothfulness that wasted and the arrogance that slew,
Shall we leave it unabated in its place?
