Workbasket Magazine - February, 1946

The February, 1946 issue of Workbasket magazine, with only three projects this month - a rather tricky-looking crocheted pillowcase trim, a tatted medallion, and a pair of knitted soakers for baby.

These last touted as being superior to rubber pants to go over diapers, but I imagine that, even though the war is over, rubber consumer goods are still in short supply.  There are four double pages to print off back to back and staple together from my Flickr account.

All Together Now - OOOOOOH!

From crochet artist extraordinaire Patricia Young, who finished the Workbasket Rose and Pineapple Doily I posted in May, and did so in under three months.  

"This was a real bear to finish and not something I would recommend to anyone other than an expert crocheter.  The instructions were not always very clear and a few times I had to rely on zooming in on the photo to see what was actually being done.  But it was fun and I was determined to finish it.  I hope you like it.  You can see the foot long ruler at the bottom of the picture to get an idea of its finished size."

And all I can say is "wow." Patty was nice enough to send me the photo and give me permission to share it. The original photo is shown below.

When I take Batdog to obedience training, I wear a fanny pack to hold the treats I bribe him with during class (okay, the instructor doesn't call them bribes, but...)

We came home the other night with a handful of doggie treats left in the pack, which I placed on the dining room table.  Next morning the pack was lying open on the floor.

Empty.

Note: The painting above is by Shozo Ozaki and looks so much like Minnie when she's pretending to be innocent that I had to use it.

Photo Op

Regional staff held a press conference at a local firehouse today, to mark the kick-off of the Sound The Alarm campaign.  Volunteers were asked to vest up and attend; I was in several photographs taken with firefighters and our State Senator.

It wasn't until I was on my way home that it dawned on me I had my t-shirt on backwards.

I'm back.

As promised and only one week late, the Workbasket 8-page issue from July 1945.  Projects include the toddler's knitted jumper shown above, several crocheted edgings, and a tulip quilt.  These can be found on my Flickr account.

Less Filling and Tastes Great

It's 6pm. The disaster assessment teams are starting to arrive back at the office after a long day of canvassing flooded neighborhoods and estimating and recording the damage.

1st team member: People in (affected area) sure are into pit bulls.  Really big pit bulls.

2nd team member:  I know -- I've never seen dogs that big.  I wonder what they feed 'em?

3rd team member (under his breath): Red Cross volunteers.
