Vintage Advertising-Congoleum Rugs

From the August, 1929 Better Homes and Gardens. These "rugs" were linoleum, designed in various sizes and intended to be placed over your old, wornout flooring just like a throw rug. I've actually seen two of them in an older house in the area and the colors are still fresh. Left-click for a closer look at the late 20's bedroom furnishings.

I wish my linoleum looked that good!

So pretty. If I remember correctly from what my grandma said, these (maybe not this brand) were somewhat affordable to the masses. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Interesting pattern.. can't say I've ever saw any of them before.. when I grew up everyone bought room sized linoleum

I don't have any prices, but I know that ads for these rugs in other magazines (Needlecraft, Modern Priscilla, etc), are heavy on the economy angle as well as the easy to keep clean angle.

I don't know when these faded away to be replaced by room-sized linoleum. I only have a handful of 1930's magazines (unlike the 20's, in which I am over-blessed) but none of them have Congoleum Rug ads. Perhaps they died with the Depression.

I love this ad! That is quite a pad they have there, isn't it?

I need something like that for my kitchen.
