Children's Crafts - A Butterfly Coin Purse

From Workbasket magazine.  I think I'd skip the rubber cement and just sew the wings splotches down (left-click to enlarge).

I often read your posts (thanks to the blog of Gina Tatting Goddess), and I find them funny, interesting and nostalgic!

This page really jumped out at me - not because of the cute felt butterfly purse (although I find it adorable and reminiscent of my 'Brownie' days in the 1950s when we did crafts), but because of the Speedwriting ad!

Their ads were EVERYWHERE back in the '50s and '60s in all kinds of magazines, and Speedwriting is actually responsible for my successful legal secretarial career! (1966-1985). I could not deal with Gregg shorthand, and Speedwriting came to my rescue. Gregg shorthand was very entrenched, and we Speedwriters had to overcome employers' prejudices against it! It really was an excellent system.

It's interesting that shorthand of any kind is no longer 'needed' in our society, and most young people don't know how important it was in the business world for 100 years!

The butterfly purse did jump out at me. When I was little and even up into jr. high, we safety pinned little coin purses like these to our clothes. Thanks for sharing.
