Lady Anne - if you had a business, they can be considered "Pest Control Equipment" and "Security Systems". That is what my step-dad did with the shop cat. As long as she lived in the warehouse (with access to warmth 24/7) we had no mice or rats in the building. And we could write off some of her vet bills. The food and litter went under "office expenses".

You have my sympathies.
Between Tubotax and Quicken, it's not too bad, but I just wish we could claim vet bills! My fur kids ought to count, too.

I used to joke to Brian that we ought to be able to deduct the dog food bills for the German Shepherds as home security expenses.
