We don’t know very much about Newdog. He was picked up as a stray – no chip, no
tags -- by a county animal shelter down
south, and turned over to a private rescue when his time at the county ran out
and he was scheduled to be euthanized.
He has beautiful markings (click to enlarge the photo and you can see how handsome he is) and a lovely gait , it’s like
watching an Arabian pony trot when he walks with Brian. The ladies at the
rescue thought he might be a year and a half because of his small
size, but vet at the rescue estimated his age at five years old after looking
at his teeth.
At some time in his life someone took the trouble to teach
him basic obedience commands. From the way he behaves with us, someone also knocked
him around quite a bit. For this reason,
we’re going to wait a while before getting the kitten, and work on making him
feel less afraid and insecure.
We’re also going to work on feeding him up some.

He's in good hands with you, I think. :)
Well, he's got a good home now. Sounds like our Ruby who was filthy and underweight when we got her. She never did get over defending me from anyone in any kind of uniform all her life. If he prances, is that usual for a shepherd? I'm used to seeing a fair number of Siberians up here and Siberian crosses who dance when they walk.
Beautiful boys, both of them just looking to be loved. Poor orange guy: mum leaves, then dad comes home with a d-o-g.
Oh, he is a handsome lad! As Janice said, he's in good hands, now.
The dog we had before we got Blazer was a pit puppy my nephew rescued from a fight ring when she was ten weeks old. Sweetest dog in the world, loved little children, would let them climb all over her, but she didn't like men - or sticks. I could back all 90 pounds of her into a corner with a fountain pen. It just makes me sick when people abuse animals.
I hope he and Reserve Cat come to an understanding.
Lovely, just lovely. He's gonna be a good addition to the family!! ๐๐๐

Congrats on adopting a rescue dog! Take the time to convince NewDog this is his last and best home! My female Maine Coon cat was a rescue adoption and it was clear she had been hit and had some horrible run in with a plastic bag. Several years on, she is my loving lap cat. Of course we still can not pick her up but I'm okay with that.
Time, love, time, patience, love, love and time will help.
